Design
Overall, the TaylorMade RBZ irons are very stylish and good-looking. It is an excellent move by TaylorMade when they give the heads a dark finish. This not only makes the irons look cool, but also causes the irons to look compact at address. The dark finish helps to frame the ball inside the hitting area on the face

The irons are progressive throughout the set. It starts with compact short irons, then you can find deep undercut cavity mid irons, and finally there are large hollow long irons. Every iron is designed for distance gapping and proper trajectory. Most irons in the set come with TaylorMade’s Multi-Functional Sole. TaylorMade says that the sand, lob, and attack wedges are fitted with TaylorMade’s ATV Sole.
The 4 and 5 irons look rather big. Perhaps they are the least attractive clubs in the set. They have a huge topline and a lot of offset. These definitely are not the best looking heads, even by GI standards. Even so, keep in mind that a two-piece metalwood construction such as these can only look so good.
The 6, 7, and 8 irons are more of undercut or pocket type cavity irons. A big positive of these irons is that they have shorter heel-to-toe dimensions than most game improvement irons in the market. The smaller heel-to-toe size helps to make the head appear compact, despite having a semi-thick topline.
The 9, PW, and AW irons have a similar design like the 6, 7, and 8 irons. However, the added loft causes the topline to appear even thinner.Now, these are truly good-looking irons.
Feel and Sound
Game improvement irons often have ugly feel and sound, but this is not the case with TaylorMade RBZ irons. Honestly, the feel and sound of TaylorMade RBZ irons are just okay – they are not bad. Of course, the company has boasted about a new “sound and vibration control system” which combines an acoustic polymer with a constrained layer to improve both the feel and sound. The technology is apparently effective for the purpose.
However, the long irons somehow don’t feel as solid as the other clubs in the set. This is not surprising if you consider the design behind them. Still, they don’t feel terrible. They just have slightly less feedback on the area where the ball hits the face. It is almost like the feel and sound of a mini fairway wood.
Forgiveness
Game improvement irons are supposed to be forgiving. The TaylorMade RBZ irons are great in this regard. They are highly forgiving, thanks to the Inverted Cone Technology. This technology expands a portion of the face to promote higher ball speeds and distances. Then, there is the “Toe Bar” which stiffens the club’s upper toe. It makes the ball fly straight. In addition, the center of gravity has been lowered to strengthen the loft and promote a more penetrating flight.
Hitting them a little thin will certainly give you a lower ball flight. However, the distance and direction will remain good. If you are slightly off the heel side of the face, which is a fairly common miss of many handicappers, you will get the expected fade. However, the fade is not dramatic at all.
Direction
The TaylorMade RBZ irons always want to be straight. This is a great thing for players who struggle with their accuracy. In particular, the 7 – AW are extremely straight. The pinpoint accuracy is very impressive. You can aim the ball to wherever you want.
You can still fade them consistently when necessary. If you like to work a fade into the green, you can perform quite well with these irons. However, even with the consistent fades, you probably will not be able to turn the ball over to get a high draw, due to the nature of the game improvement irons.
The irons are really good in intermediate and heavy roughs. They are pretty good in the fairway, but they are especially great in the rough. With these irons, knockdowns are highly playable, so they are great for playing in windy areas as well.
Ball Flight and Distance
There is one important thing to note. The TaylorMade RBZ irons are not suitable for players who are looking for lower ball flights. Despite having strong lofts, these irons tend to make high ball flights. However, the strong lofts are ideal for players who lose distance because of their struggle to send the ball airborne.
The high ball flights are to be expected from the added offset. The heads have a lot of offset. It will cause the ball to fly high and achieve a far distance. The company always boasts that their longer is longer, so this is probably a fine example to prove that statement.
The TaylorMade RBZ irons can give you roughly ½ club distance gain over the S400 shafted irons. There is a lot of power provided by the substantial weight located behind the face. As the effect, the irons are extremely easy to hit, and the distances are spectacularly long.
